The Skinny.
The Skinny is an experiment in utilising the footprint of an average extension to the side of a typical Scottish suburban semi-detached house. A granny flat, an annexe, a studio, whatever it wants to be called, it provides maximum architectural value, spacious open plan living and a low cost housing solution for one to two people. This affordable solution makes the most of the space available providing creative solutions for storage and room allowances.
Brief
To provide a one bedroom fully equipped apartment to the north side of the main house, with low enough roof ridge not to block the sun from the back garden. It must be energy efficient, reducing the electricity requirements, and adopt passive design strategies for heating and ventilation. The design must be flexible, and smart, utilising the small space to achieve a comfortable and enjoyable home.
