Thomson Timber
Thomson Timber is a timber framing company based in Glenrothes in Fife. They produce timber framed structures and buildings for private clients and utilise their own sawmill to produce mill rule timber frame structures.
They use Scottish grown larch for the majority of their projects. They produce high quality buildings for their clients, and utilise mill rule and machine power tools to ensure they can provide reasonable prices for their work, by working faster and more efficiently than the traditional timber framing methods adopted by most timber framing companies in the UK.
They are also very enthusiastic about training and run courses on the basics of timber framing both in Scotland and Alaska. To find out more about them, click the link below.
Involvement
I was delighted to work alongside Jim and his associate on some larch timber framing for a summerhouse in Fife. Jim utilises heavy machinery over hand tools, and I had the opportunity to use many of these larger tools, and learn some short cuts and quick ways to speed up the timber framing process while getting accurate results.
Milling their own timber on site and being able to produce timber frames efficiently is how Thomson Timber have provided high quality products and teaching and maintained their long standing reputation for attention to detail and customer satisfaction.
